    MANATEE
    Two Colombian coffee companies want to gain U.S. market share through a relationship with SeaSeaPort Manatee. Combined, Bunland and Monte Cielo will ship 2,200 pounds of coffee to SeaSeaPort Manatee at the end of August.

    The companies began their relationship with the port through the International Trade Hub. Marina Besadalombana, trade hub consultant, and Ivan Mutis, trade hub consultant and coordinator, said they have conducted market tests and research to determine the level of interest in the type of coffee these companies will bring.

    The International Trade Hub at SeaSeaPort Manatee is making inroads to enhance the trade relationship between Guatemalan companies and the port.

    “This hub you have here in SeaSeaPort Manatee is very advanced,” said Dunia Miranda-Mauri, a Guatemalan trade commissioner who visited SeaSeaPort Manatee and presented to the Manatee County Port Authority on Thursday. “And hopefully some Guatemalan companies will have offices there.”

    Connecting Colombia’s agriculture companies with new ports of entry is one step in helping the country recover from a half-century of war.

    Last year, the Colombian government was able to “sign a peace agreement with actually the oldest guerrilla in the hemisphere,” said Juan Camilo Barrera, agribusiness director for ProColombia, a Colombian government entity based in Miami that is tasked with promoting trade, tourism and the country’s brand.
